Saturday essentials
« on: October 13, 2011, 07:07:04 pm »
disclaimer- i am not the boss, i don't want to be the boss, but i love team work.  saturday is huge.  we need focused conversation on this.  please do not respond with off topic commentary.  if you have a point which you think is valid, please add it or speak your truth.  regardless, as my high school english teacher used to sat, we have to "get a wiggle on it" (read: bust ass).  i am wide open tomorrow until 3 to field questions, make connections, answer the phone, etc.  don't hesitate to contact.

buck

as i see it - open to critique:

1) blast email to all those addys we have
**points of contact, team leaders please send appropriate tech contact your info
**tech - who is appropriate contact, who can do this.  what do you need to get it done.
2) press release - in progress - media.  Tennessean beat us to the punch and had an article about the rally today.
***who can get it to the press?  what press is it being sent to? are we missing any?
3) signage - there are several posts in media, multimedia and general chat for posters / artwork.  AMAZING stuff.  this needs to hit the streets tomorrow if possible.  i have tried to cross reference each forum thread so all of it can be found.
***media, multimedia, outreach, direct action all need a hand in this.
***who can handle printing, delivery of goods to plaza for distribution?
4) points:
***the occupation of nashville is entering its second week
***10/15/11 is a GLOBAL day of action.  on every continent, except antartica, there will be "occupy" protests.

please discuss, claim tasks, report back as soon as you can.

---------- Post added at 07:07 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:03 PM ----------

please also, someone from each team check in to ensure the email went out.  i do not have an email for all the working groups (direct action, logistics, i know i have it for tech and media, i think legal)

which begs the question, what are all the groups / committees now?  how should each play a role?  if you can contact them and bring them to this discussion, let us know.

You need better use of Facebook

I posted thus in another thread too - so sorry for double psting but I think it's important and I don't have time to figure out links just now!

It may be a bit more work, but i think you do need to use the Facebook channel as well as the website. There's research about how many clicks the average person will tolerate before they give up looking for something. Making them go from Facebook to the website increases the chance to lose them.

Plus you can handle frequent events and big ones separately. I would like to see the picture for the Facebook page changed. Why is it Occupy Together? I'm looking for Occupy Nashville - it makes first time browsers think they are in the wrong place.

The times of the daily GAs should be in the Info page and you could also embed them in the picture. Then they are clearly visible even to a casual reader. For special events like Saturday there should definitely be an event. We want more of society to be with us, right? Therefore we should make max use of social media. If you go to Facebook now it looks like there is no event! Plus we lose the promotional effect. The posting of the event should show up in the News feed of everyone who liked the page, or subscribed. That gets word to them without them having to come to the page. When people say they will attend, that goes in the news feed to their friends. It gets word out!!

Come on guys, you know how Facebook works! I can't believe i'm explaining this!

Bottom line - Saturday is a big deal. Getting people there is huge. Failing to promote it wastes a LOT of organizing effort. Frankly, it's more important than posting the damn minutes of meeting, so please, if you only have time to do one thing, update the events on Facebook!!
